Lawton Copper Tubes - The Nation's Copper Specialist

Welcome to our Website

We are a fourth generation run family owned business located in Coventry in the heart of the United Kingdom.

The Lawton Tube business was co-founded by AH Lawton and commenced trading as a partnership in 1918 making copper and brass tubes for the motor trade, the railway companies and the shipbuilding industry. In 1920 the business was incorporated as a limited company.

Albert Lawton Founder Lawton TutbesA major change took place in 1937 when the company moved from the centre of Coventry to a new factory on the outskirts of Coventry. (This factory remains the head-quarters of the company today.) Almost as soon as the move and the installation of new machinery was completed the company came under government control. For the next eight years nearly all tube production was required by the armed forces. Production at that time was 100 tonnes a month.

Following the cessation of government control the company set about re-establishing its customer base. In the years that followed the company doubled the size of the factory and invested heavily in new tube drawing machinery enabling the company to start tube production for the construction industry in addition to its already established markets.

During the 1980’s and 1990’s the company continued to consolidate and expand its customer base whilst continuing the manufacture of copper tubes for specialised applications. During these years it was realised that the company needed to diversify its core activities and was a pioneer within the UK in manufacturing and selling medical gas tube.

These changes were accelerated in the late 1990’s by the arrival of the vigorous and enthusiastic fourth generation of the Lawton family to manage the company. In 2001, the company acquired ‘Dorset Tube’ in Poole thus expanding its capacity and product range to include copper and cupro nickel tubes for the electrical, automotive and solar heating industries. Since then it has added more standard plumbing tube and coil to its product range as well as moving to supply refrigeration and air conditioning tube. Associated products, such as fittings and solder supplying all areas of the business, have been added to the company’s product span.

The company has also felt the need to improve its administration processes to ensure that this keeps up with the developments within its product range. Consequently, it has also recently installed new computer and communications systems to improve our service to customers.

To reflect the considerable growth of the company and its products the management team are developing the ‘Lawton’ brand consisting of both tube and fittings for plumbing and heating, refrigeration and air conditioning, medical gas and engineering applications. We have a new national distribution centre and 60,000sq feet head quarters, right opposite our main factory. It can hold enough stock to fill 20 tennis courts.

The company turnover is now about £100 million. In addition to this the company has established itself as a supplier of quality associated products.

The Lawton family and their team will continue to search for appropriate high quality products to add to its portfolio of products to assist in the continuing growth of your business and that of ‘Lawton’. We pride ourselves on the quality of our products and service and the level of expertise we have within the business.
